The Greek sailors used the term Leukos to refer to the white cliff that gives its name to what we now call Leuca. It would later become Santa Maria di Leuca, probably due to the worship associated with the Sanctuary of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, the land marking the boundary of Roman territories.
In this strip of land, one can admire high and rugged cliffs, small golden bays breaking up the low rocks, and the famous karst caves.
Low and narrow like an alcove, this small cave is accessible by swimming. Characterized by spring water, the cave contains a small patch of sand.
