The term Leukos was used by Greek sailors to refer to the white cliffs that gave their name to what we now call Leuca. It would later become Santa Maria di Leuca, likely due to the religious devotion associated with the Sanctuary of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, marking the boundary of Roman lands.
In this stretch of land, you can admire high and rugged cliffs, small golden bays interrupting the low rocks, and the famous karst caves.
Western Side
The cave has two large openings, each about 30 meters wide, separated by a rock pillar, allowing access to a spacious chamber. Inside, a massive rock formation emerges, resembling a dragon.
